“Helping out neighbors in our community, by providing food and nutrition for families struggling to put food on their family’s table, it’s just the right thing to do,” says John Carlson, Chair of the New Haven Republicans.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, an infant should have 2.5 oz of formula for each pound of body weight. That means a 15 pound baby needs 37.5 oz of formula every day. WIC allocates 624 oz. - 884 oz per month for infants from 0-11 months old. That’s 20.8 oz – 29.5 oz each day. Where does the other 8 oz. - 16.7 oz come from?

Pastor Brenda Adkins of His Divine Will Fellowship Church, who is leading this drive, says “There’s a whole lot of mothers who are struggling. … The younger ones are watering it down.”

The Republican party is all about governing at the local level. Sharing resources with neighbors is one way to do that. There’s another drive coming up in July. Even if you pick up a bottle of formula every other week in your grocery cart, you’re ensuring the health of our youngest neighbors.
